Why We Built Studio Gloam?

Henry Craven·3 Jul 2026·3 min read

It's no secret that the games industry has changed…

Core internal teams are smaller, productions are more focused, and the pressure to hit visual and performance targets is higher than ever. As a result, the smartest studios aren't hiring specialists, they're partnering with them.

After years of working in AAA development and co-development, it was the same conversation that kept coming up - studios needed lighting artists, technical artists and material artists who could come in, understand the project, and drive actual change. However, time and time again, the answer was the same: they're hard to find.

Cue Studio Gloam 💡

We know the talent is out there and that the industry is full of extremely skilled developers who have spent years honing their craft. We respect that these are the people who think deeply about real-time lighting, who obsess over material pipelines, and who find genuine joy in solving the hardest technical art problems in games. In fact, we respect it so much that we didn't just want to recognise their talent, we wanted to give them a home for it.

We are a specialist co-development studio that is built around three disciplines: Lighting Art, Technical Art and Materials Art. We work with AAA clients who need a team that understands their problems, acts fast and leaves things better than they found them.

For studios, this means being a trusted partner who can come in and hit the ground running on the most technically demanding work, without the overhead of a permanent hire.

For developers, it means housing their talent in a studio that is built around their specialism - a place where their craft is the point, not just a support function.

We're only just getting started. But the foundations are in place, the team is growing, and the work speaks for itself 👾

If you're a studio with a lighting, technical art, or performance challenge, we'd love to talk.

Or, if you're a developer who takes your craft seriously, we'd love to hear from you.
